Bio: Dr. Coyer is a DIPLOMATE of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery® and is Board Certified in Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery®.
Dr. Coyer is a highly trained Orange County Foot and Ankle Surgeon with extensive experience in the latest treatments for foot and ankle conditions in Orange County. He specializes in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery in Orange County, including minimally invasive surgical techniques, corrective and reconstructive foot surgery, corrective and reconstructive rear foot and ankle surgery, foot and ankle trauma, diabetic limb salvage, pediatric foot conditions, and sports medicine. Dr. Coyer, Orange County Podiatrist, is a member of the medical staff at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, Hoag Hospital - Irvine, and several surgery centers in the Newport Beach, Irvine, and Laguna Woods areas. In addition, Dr. Coyer is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (FACFAS) with offices in Irvine, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, and Orange, CA.
Dr. Coyer completed his undergraduate education in his home state of Michigan. He then obtained his medical degree from the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine in Independence, OH having graduated in the top 1/3 of his class. He continued on to complete a comprehensive three-year surgical residency at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic / Mercy Health Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Surgery Residency program in Cleveland, OH. While in residency training, he completed numerous rotations within the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, the #2 top rated U.S. Hospital. During his residency, he received training by many renown physicians in numerous specialties, including Emergency Medicine, Infectious Disease, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Radiology, Internal Medicine, and Psychiatry.
Dr. Coyer received extensive training in the Cleveland Clinic Orthopedic Surgery and Cleveland Clinic / Akron General Orthopedic Surgery Departments, as well as training with top foot and ankle surgeons within the Mercy Heath and Metro Health systems. Additionally, he completed training in pediatric orthopedic surgery within the Metro Health System, having received specialized training from several fellowship trained, pediatric orthopedic surgeons in comprehensive pediatric care. Working beside some of the most respected surgical specialists, he amassed an abundant and diverse surgical background.
He has authored and co-authored several articles on foot and ankle surgical conditions, with published articles in the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery and Northern Ohio Foot and Ankle Foundation (NOFA) journal. He has also presented numerous research posters at both the regional and national levels, and has conducted and presented research through the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. Additionally, he has given several academic presentations on various topics, including Gunshot Wounds in the Lower Extremity, Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery in the Lower Extremity, Pre-Operative Management of Lower Extremity Surgical Conditions, and Total Ankle Replacement.
Additionally, Dr. Coyer is honored to have been interviewed by the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) for several articles and foot and ankle pathologies. He is actively involved with the surgical advancement of the podiatric medical profession and continues to serve as a committee member with both the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery.
Prior to beginning his career as a foot and ankle surgeon in Orange County, Dr. Coyer spent 15 years as a deputy sheriff, police sergeant, and police lieutenant in his home state of Michigan. His experiences as a police officer and police supervisor have provided an extraordinary perspective on the value of providing service to those in need in a compassionate and personal manner, regardless of the situation. Having a great respect for public service, and for humanity in its entirety, has led to his commitment to provide proactive and quality patient care with a professional, empathetic, and personal touch. He believes that all patients deserve the “best of both worlds” and that an exceptional bedside manner and high degree of surgical expertise are equally important.
Having spent the majority of his life engaged in outdoor activities, Dr. Coyer understands the value of maintaining an active life style. He is a past competitor of the Cleveland Triathlon and is an avid cyclist. He is also an avid scuba diver and PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer. He continues to maintain an active lifestyle and enjoys all that Orange County has to offer.
